Education

Kudallur village enjoys a cent percentage literacy rate. Currently, five schools including two private schools feeds almost schooling needs of the village. They are: a) GBLP School b) AJB School c)GUP School d) Al Hilal English Medium School and e) Sandeepani English Medium School. The first two schools mentioned here offers classes upto fourth standard where as the next offers classes from five to seven standards. The private schools offer classes upto tenth standard. Arrival of large number of schools in surrounding areas had badly affected some schools, especially Government ones. New educational trend of the village where parents and students are fascinated by the so called ' English schools' is causing a great threat to the existence of Government schools.

Higher education needs of the area are mostly satisfied by institutions in nearby towns of Kuttipuram, Koottanad, Pattambi and Edappal. Higher Secondry Schools at Thrithala and Vattenadu holds a major count of students from the village. SNGS Arts and Science College Pattambi, MES College Velanchery, MES Engineering College Kuttipuram, MES College Ponnani and some other colleges in districts of Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode are mostly depended by this village for collegiate education. Recent time had shown a considerable increase in the rate of students going outside the state for proffessional education.

Religion

Hindus and Muslims reside here in an almost equal number. It is interesting that their lives only one Christian family in the village. But they have no Church here. Vazhakavu, Malamalkavu and Siva Temples are the main Hindu religiuos centres in the village. Kudallur Pazhaya Palli (now undergoing reconstruction works), Masjid -Thaqva, Manniyamperumbalam Masjid are the main masjids or muslim worhip centres. The first temple in Kerala is near Kudallur, at Panniyur. Hindu-Muslim unity of the village is well appreciated during the 1920’s, the age in which the struggle against the British policy of 'divide and rule' became powerful in Malabar. The British people used to divide Hindus and Muslims by spreading false stories and much. But this rumours had nothing to do with Kudallur’s unity. Another interesting fact which has to be highlighted is that Juma Masjid and Temple at Kudallur is only metres away from each other and was built in the land having the same survey number. Both worship centres still resembles the unity of Kudallur.

Festivals

The main festivals of Kudallur are : Shivarathri Mahostavam at Muthuvilayam Kunnu Shiva Kshethram, Kudallur Nercha at Komu Shaheed Jaram, Malamalkavu Pooram and Kudallur Pooram at Vazhakkavu Kshethram.Malamakkavu Pooram is celebrated at Malamakkavu Ayyappa Temple. Display of traditional art, dance forms and elephants are the main attractions of Pooram. A huge amount of money is being spent for fireworks every year. Kudallur Nercha is celebrated along the banks of river Bharathapuzha where the Mausoleum of Martyr Komu is present. Band troups, elephants and traditional art forms are the main attractions here.

River Nila

Scenic range of hills, paddy fields and beauty of Nila blends Kudallur to an exotic place. This river had set the background for a number of films and serials. Among them, Mahayanam - a Mammootty film, was able to extract the beauty of the river to maximum. Rivers of Bharathappuzha and Thootha merges at Kudallur and flows into Arabian Sea (at Ponnani). Kariyannoor Railway Bridge is almost at this merging point. The people of Kudallur had a great affection towards the river and were much connected to it. At present, it is so sad that grassy forests had aquired a major share of river and the remaining parts are in the hands of sand-miners. The main areas through which people on each sides of river got connected are: kadavu at Kootakadavu to Paruthoor, Jaram kadavu and Perasanoor kadavu to Persanoor in Malappuram district. Besides the river, streams of Kumanthodu, Mambilli Chola, Cherath chola, Pavitta Chola and Malamakkavu Chira also serves the need for water in the village.

Kudallur Hills

Kudallur is surrounded by a range of beautiful hills. Thanni Kunnu, Thalappoli Kunnu, Malamakkavu Kunnu, Ummathoor Kunnu and Kumarakam Kunnu. Unauthorized soil extraction from these areas had caused disappearance of many hills here. Thanni Kunnu, mentioned in MT stories is a quarry now and most of the surrounding hills also had lost their green covering.
